Started in 1976, Habitat for Humanity built its 200,000th home in 2005.
Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Blue Water Habitat for Humanity.  Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate substandard housing from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.  Since 1976 Habitat for Humanity has built or renovated over 225,000 homes worldwide, providing more than 1 million people, in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.  However, it's estimated that there are 1.5 billion people in need of decent housing in the world; you can see we have a ways to go and that's why we need your help.  The good news is that the pace of home construction is accelerating; on Habitat's 25th anniversary in 2001 they celebrated by building their 100,000th home.  About 5 years later, we will completed our 200,000 home.  That's an additional 100,000 homes in 5 years compared to 100,000 homes in 25 years.

Blue Water Habitat for Humanity focuses 90% of its attention in St. Clair County Michigan.  However Habitat for Humanity is building in every county in the State of Michigan, we are in every State in the U. S., and we are in 100 countries worldwide.  So when you volunteer with Habitat you are a part of an international organization with tremendous opportunities and possibilities.  We are growing rapidly to meet the needs of people around the world and St. Clair County and to keep building we need your help.

Construction
Hundreds of volunteers are needed to help build houses each year.  If you have no experience and are willing to learn a new skill then you will do great with Habitat.  If you have some experience, that is a plus.  If you are a pro, we would love to have you be a crew leader, leading less skilled volunteers.

Support
Volunteers are needed on our construction sites to help support the construction crew.  You can volunteer as a site host to make sure all the volunteers get checked in properly or you can volunteer to provide lunch for a work crew.  We are also looking for volunteers who are able to provide first aid care and volunteers who are willing to keep the tool trailers organized and clean during the building period.

Leadership Committees
There are always opportunities to volunteer on an operating committee.  You can volunteer to serve on a committee that helps keep the affiliate running: Board of Directors, Site Selection, Family Selection, Volunteers, PR/Fund Development, Family Partners, Building, Church Relations.

Restore
Volunteer in our Habitat ReStore by: being a part-time cashier, solicit building materials, or pickup and deliver materials.

Event Committees
Volunteers are needed to help organize, plan and facilitate events for Habitat.  We are looking for people who are willing to lead an event committee or put together a group who would be willing to organize events for Habitat.

Administrative
From time to time help in the Habitat offices is needed.  There are occassional opportunities in the office to help file, provide reception duties, or help with mailings.
